Nightwing #1

I was looking forward to the return of Nightwing even after getting used to a long year of Batman, therefore since DC Comic’s New 52 Relaunch started a renumbered Nightwing title I was eager to pick up the issue and see Grayson back on the streets of Gotham as Nightwing.

The issue starts with a very informative introduction of Dick Grayson as Nightwing, which is great given that this is the first issue of the title. Although Dick seems to be an appropriate name because all the first-person narration is about how sure he is of himself.

The greater part of issue is filled with information about Dick and his skills as well as Dick’s past and what led him to being Nightwing. Dick revisits the circus!? Awesome. It is safe to assume that the circus will definitely affect his decisions as Nightwing. I’m a bit undecided on the run in with the clawed villain (could have used a little more creativity here), although I am still intrigued to see what happens next.

The artwork was great, I loved the diagonal panels and the new costume was not a disappointment. This issue was a great start to the title, and definitely one you should consider reading. I’m excited to have Dick back as Nightwing because after this issue, it is clear as day – even in the dark city of Gotham – that he was meant to be Nightwing.
